Native American Style Double Flutes

Stellar Drone Flutes

As you may have guessed by looking, a “Drone” flute is essentially two flutes that have been attached to make this unique instrument. One side has six finger holes and plays just like our single flutes, while the other side plays a harmony note to create a chord effect. Our Drone flutes have two blowholes so they can be play as a single or double flute. They also have two options a harmony note which is why they have a hole on the drone side. This hole can either be played with a finger, or can be adjusted using the included hole plug for either a higher or lower drone note.

Choosing Which Side The Finger Holes Are On

Right or Left-handed?

This is a matter of personal preference. We make our Drone flutes with the finger holes on either the right or left barrel and one orientation may feel more comfortable to your hands. I am a left handed flute player meaning I play with my left hand on the lower three holes (closest to the foot of the flute) and my preference is a drone flute with the finger holes on the right side and optional drone hole on the left side so I can play it with my lower hand. Consider choosing a drone with the drone side hole on the same side as your lower hand. Confused? Watch the short video below to see what I’m talking about.

Tuning and Size

Our Drone flutes are double Native American style flutes featuring the same tuning (pentatonic minor) as our single flutes. They also have the same finger hole spacing as our single flutes so if you have a stellar G flute for instance, a Stellar G Drone will have the same hole spacing.
All of our flutes and Drone Flutes are tuned to the universal standard 440hz tuning which means they are compatible with professional instruments.
