Redwood Native American style D flute – #0747

This much sought after redwood flute does not disappoint. The wood is made from an old covered bridge that was deconstructed. The bridge was over a 100 years old so the wood itself is very old. It is a light weight, softwood which adds a wonderful resonance to the voice.
Flutes in the key of D are more difficult to play than some of the higher pitched keys and are better suited for people with some flute playing experience or people with experience playing other instruments. The reason for this is that they have a larger overall length and the spacing of the fingering holes is quite big. We do cluster the finger holes in groups of three, but the lower three holes are spread far apart and could be difficult for some hand sizes to play. If you are drawn to the sound of this key but are worried it may be too big, you can try a smaller key such as F or E and work your way down to the D. The stretch feels much more manageable once your fingers get used to playing the flute and as you play larger and larger flutes you will gain dexterity and flexibility in the fingers.
This flute is a 6 hole Native American style flute tuned to the universal standard 440hz tuning which in non musical terms means that it will be compatible with most other instruments. This flute features a pentatonic minor scale but with the guidance of the included fingering chart and some practice, you can learn to play many other scales.

Measurements
The low D is about 26 inches long with a 1 1/8 inch bore diameter. It’s about 11 ¼ inches from the mouth end to the middle of the first fingering hole, and the fingering holes are 1 ¼ inches apart from center to center but are clustered in groups of three to make them easier to play. There is a nearly a 2 inch gap between the top three holes and the bottom three holes.
