Crafted from beautiful western red cedar that has been darkened with a natural iron stain to a rich opaque black color, this Native American style A Drone flute will bring your music to new heights. Its ethereal duel tone voice harmonizes as you play. My personal favorite key for Drone flutes, the key of A has a more cheerful and sweet sound than the lower keys. This Drone flute has the finger holes on the right side. If you play the flute with your left hand on the lower three holes, you might be able to use a pinky finger to play the optional drone note. Our Drone flutes all come with a hole plug (not shown) for those who are not interested in trying to play the optional drone note. This flute is 21 1/4 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide. it has a 7/8 inch bore diameter.
The first fingering hole is spaced 9 1/2 inches down from the mouth end.
The first three fingering holes are 3/4 of an inch center to center, the lower three holes are 1 inch center to center.
About Native American style Drone flutes in the key of A
Native American Drone flutes, sometimes called "double" flutes, are just that, THey are two flutes that are joined together. One side player like a normal flute and the other side plays one or more harmony notes. All of our drones have two blowholes so you can play as a single flute or play both sides together. They also feature an optional drone side hole with an included decorative plug so you can have two different options for harmony notes.
Drone flutes are harder to play because they require more air (two slow air chambers!) and they are wider than normal native flutes. This flute would be best suited to someone who has a little experience playing Native flutes, or someone who has played other instruments.
