Meet the Golden Cedar Native American Style G Flute
This is a western red cedar Native American style flute tuned to the key of G. Made from the same high-quality wood as our other beginner flutes, this color variation of cedar is lighter than our Heartwood cedar with a warm gold color. All of the colors of our beginner flutes are made from the same wood and have the same, high quality voice and carful, precise tuning.
This is our most popular key of flute! Made from locally sourced western red cedar, the Basic G flute is a wonderful introductory flute! You can ask any flute enthusiast what flutes they have in their collection and you will likely hear “key of G” on the list. The reason for this is its mid range voice that has both soothing deeper tones and higher more cheerful tones. Luckily for beginner flute players out there, it is also fairly easy to play! It the middle sized flute of the three Basic flutes we offer. It is well suited for people with medium sized hands. We find that most people can easily reach the finger holes on this key, but if you are buying for a child, or someone with smaller hands, consider starting with our key of A flute which has an easier finger hole stretch.
The Stellar Basic G flute is a Native American style flute tuned to feature a pentatonic minor scale. Native flutes are characterized by a two chamber design with a piece (we call the block) that sits on top and channels the air you blow into one chamber across an opening to the second chamber (imagine blowing across a bottle). Our flutes are tuned to the universal standard 440HZ tuning which in simpler terms means that they are compatible with the majority of other instruments. That all sounds confusing if you are new to music, but all you truly need to know for now is that the scale they feature is easy to play and sounds good just about any way you play it so it is wonderful for people who don’t read music or people who are looking for an instrument to play in an unstructured way. Each flute comes with a booklet that has drawings of which holes to cover. We want you to be successful in your flute playing journey!

A Very Special Wood
Learn About Western Red Cedar
All of the flutes in this picture are made from the same wood, western red cedar. This is the wood that all of our beginner flutes and many of our Premiere flutes are made from. The “heartwood” flutes are made from unstained cedar meaning that we have only applied varnish and no color altering stains or paints to the flute. The “iron stained” flutes on the other hand do have a natural vinegar and steel wool stain applied which reacts with the tannins in the wood to darken the flute to an opaque black color.
We love western red cedar not only for it’s cultural significance, but also for the wonderful warmth and resonance the wood brings to the voice of each flute regardless of color or stain.
Here in the PNW the western red cedar tree is considered sacred. Our indigenous peoples use it for everything from weaving baskets to making canoes. To honor this special wood, not a single piece of our cedar scrap or dust is thrown in the landfill. We use even the small pieces for our blocks, to heat our homes, and to mulch our gardens.
