This beautiful black flute is made out of western red cedar that has had a homemade iron stain applied to darken the wood. You can still see the bold grain pattern through the stain. This is a big flute, but because it is made from a softwood it is fairly light weight. Its voice is absolutely stunning with a deep booming sound to it. I do not recommend this key of flute for beginner flute players.
This flute is 28 1/4 inches long with a 1 1/4 inch bore diameter. It's 12 inches from the mouth end to the center of the first fingering hole. The fingering holes are clustered in sets of three to make them easier to play, with the first set being spaced 1 inch apart center to center and the second set being 1 3/8 inches apart center to center. there is a 2 inch gap between the first cluster of holes and the second.
