Meet the Knotty Cedar Native American Style G Flute
Love the looks of our beginner Native American style G flute, but want something a little more unique? Our Knotty flutes are perfect fit for you! These beauties each feature unique and interesting knots and no two are alike! Made of the same high quality western red cedar as or other beginner flutes, each of these flutes are strikingly different! You can scroll through the pictures to see some examples of what the knots might look like, but you will not see your specially selected flute until it arrives. It’s like a little surprise!
These knots are stabilized, sometimes have bold, filled cracks through them, and usually make the surrounding grain swirl in interesting ways. In the past these unique flutes would all be made into Premieres because knots make the flutes more difficult to shape, but we decide to release some as beginner flutes as well. Inventory is limited, so hurry and buy one before they are gone!
Why are key of G flutes good for beginner flute players?
Truly one of our most popular keys of flute, the G flute has a mid range voice with a soothing and more meditative voice. The reason this key is included as one of our three beginner friendly keys is due to its size. Of our three beginner flutes, the key of G sits right in the middle size and voice wise. In my many years of flute making and teaching experience, I have found that most people with average sized hands and average hand dexdarity have a relatively easy time reaching all the finger holes on this key.
Why we love 440hz tuning
We choose to tune all of our flutes to the gold standard of tuning which is 440hz. This allows you to play along with other musicians regardless of what instrument they are playing!
There are other tunings that have become popular in recent years, but sticking with our standard of professional musical excellence is very important to us so other than the single flute offered in the alternative 432hz all other flutes on our website are tuned to 440hz.
Measurements

A Very Special Wood
Learn About Western Red Cedar
All of the flutes in this picture are made from the same wood, western red cedar. This is the wood that all of our beginner flutes and many of our Premiere flutes are made from. The “heartwood” flutes are made from unstained cedar meaning that we have only applied varnish and no color altering stains or paints to the flute. The “iron stained” flutes on the other hand do have a natural vinegar and steel wool stain applied which reacts with the tannins in the wood to darken the flute to an opaque black color.
We love western red cedar not only for it’s cultural significance, but also for the wonderful warmth and resonance the wood brings to the voice of each flute regardless of color or stain.
Here in the PNW the western red cedar tree is considered sacred. Our indigenous peoples use it for everything from weaving baskets to making canoes. To honor this special wood, not a single piece of our cedar scrap or dust is thrown in the landfill. We use even the small pieces for our blocks, to heat our homes, and to mulch our gardens.

Happy Customer The flute is surprisingly beautiful!
And it has a rich tone. Finger holes are not too large for someone with smaller hands. Very enjoyable to play! I started with a different brand and Stellar beats it hands down. Wish I had tried Stellar first! Just a well made flute by an awesome team! It arrived in record time too.
