This flute is of a piece of highly figured catalpa wood. It has a vivid gold, green hue, with the most striking grain pattern of tight tiger stripes and waves that seem to go in every direction. It was a very difficult flute to shape, but the end result was well worth the effort. Catalpa is a medium weight hardwood with a subtle grain texture that you can feel through the varnish. This flutes voice is deep and soothing.

Measurements

This flute is 28 1/4 inches long with a 1 1/4 inch bore diameter. It's 12 inches from the mouth end to the center of the first fingering hole. The fingering holes are clustered in sets of three to make them easier to play, with the first set being spaced 1 inch apart center to center and the second set being 1 3/8 inches apart center to center. there is a 2 inch gap between the first cluster of holes and the second.
