This flute is made from a piece of Redwood that was reclaimed from a deconstructed bridge. The bridge was over 100 years old and the wood is even older. Redwood is a lightweight softwood. This gives the flute a resonance you can feel as you play. It should be protected as it will dent easily. It is light weight for such a large flute and has a smooth feeling finish.
