This flute is made from a beautiful rosy, pink colored piece of cherry wood. This wood will darken with age into a rich red color. The grain has a subtle wave pattern that shimmers and moves in the light. This is a durable, hardwood. It has a smooth finish and a nice weight. Cherry is one of my favorite woods for flutes because it seems to lend a sweet quality to the voice of each flute we make from it.

This wood is FSC certified.  FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.

Measurements

The low D is about 26 inches long with a 1 1/8 inch bore diameter. It’s about 11 ¼ inches from the mouth end to the middle of the first fingering hole, and the fingering holes are 1 ¼ inches apart from center to center but are clustered in groups of three to make them easier to play. There is a nearly a 2 inch gap between the top three holes and the bottom three holes.

Native American style flutes in the key of D have a very deep and resonant voice. They are larger around then out E flutes, with a 1 1/8 inch bore diameter. The fingering holes are clustered in groups of three to make them easier to play, but this key of flute is still better suited for someone with some flute playing experience.

Walnut Premiere NAsF Dm flute

I've been playing for just under a year (started in Mar, 2024). With this purchase, my collection now totals nine flutes from five different makers (two from Stellar). This Walnut Dm is my favorite of the bunch. My previous favorite was my other Stellar, an F# basic. What I'm saying is that Stellar makes a good flute. Even their basic flutes are better than other makers premium flutes. I don't think you could go wrong with a Stellar flute. They play like a dream. I'll be back for another when I see one that lights me up (I'm hoping they build another C bass flute in myrtle).
