It is technically a softwood because the tree has needles rather than leaves, but it is very dense and heavy for a softwood. It has a lovely silky feel and a nice weight. The wood has a bold and striking grain pattern. Hemlock is one of my favorite woods for flutes because it adds a rich timber to the voice of the flute. \u003cspan style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eListen to the video to hear the flute being played. The block might be a little different than what is pictured, but rest assured i will choose one that i think complements your unique flute best.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThis flute is tuned to a Hijaz scale which has a Hebrew or middle eastern sound to it. This style of flute is more difficult to play than our Native American styles of flute because of the uneven hole spacing and the lowest hole being set much further down on the body of the flute. Some people learn to play this hole with their pinky finger. I prefer to stretch my ring finger to cover it.
