This flute is made from a bright orange piece of Washington native Douglas fir. Though this flute is technically a soft wood because the tree has needles rather than leaves, it is on the harder and denser side which means that it will have more of the characteristics of a hardwood flute. It has a deep and full voice.

Measurements

The low D is about 26 inches long with a 1 1/8 inch bore diameter. It’s about 11 ¼ inches from the mouth end to the middle of the first fingering hole, and the fingering holes are 1 ¼ inches apart from center to center but are clustered in groups of three to make them easier to play. There is a nearly a 2 inch gap between the top three holes and the bottom three holes.
